Managing your carbon footprint within your busy daily life shouldn’t be a challenge, so adopting these five simple practices will help you look after the planet without taking over your life!
Recycling
Most of us have access to recycling resources, so there’s really no excuse not to be using them!
Most household products (including clothing, food packaging, toilet roll, compost, etc) can be recycled (and are often now made from recycled materials), so being mindful of where your products end up once they’ve been used is paramount in ensuring they will be used again, instead of being dumped into landfills or the ocean.

Rethinking
Taking the time to monitor what you’re bringing into your home, where it has come from, and where it’ll end up is a good practice to get into.
By law, all food and product packaging have to provide information on its ingredients, its materials, and whether it is recyclable or not. Many companies are leaning into using recycled materials for their packaging, and will proudly display this on the front of the item. Getting into the habit of only purchasing brands that have pledged to be more green will, in turn, help you to be more green too!
Reusing
Repairing, refurbishing, and repurposing in alternative ways will do two things:
- it will enable you to get more life out of an item
- it can be great fun too
The internet is a great and wonderful place for finding ideas on upcycling old items (that would otherwise end up in the bin), so allow it to inspire you!
Resell
A perfect way to do your bit for charity (as well as the environment) is to deposit any old items (clothing, books, games, music, kitchenware, toys, etc) at your local charity shops.
We’re all busy, and sometimes it can be tempting to just toss something in the bin, but getting into the habit of doing an annual/quarterly/as-and-when charity shop run is a great way to ensure products can be reused. Remember: one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
Returning
Some products just aren’t compatible with recycling, which can be frustrating. A classic culprit is toothpaste products! That’s where we step in! We now have a policy where you can return your Happier toothpaste lid (free of charge) to our lovely team at Happier HQ, who will then wash and sterilise the lids so that they can be reused for future Happier toothpaste orders.
